About
Plumsong was formed in 2011 by Sharyn Seidel and her daughter, Dara Beth. What started as a once-off performance for the Killarney Raceway Awards Ceremony blossomed into a shared love for the play between harmonies, crossover medleys and synchronized dance routines and has become an inimitable vocal force. Perhaps it’s the familial touch or just the right match of creativity but Sharyn and Dara’s blend of voices creates the perfect sound for any occasion.
Since the humble beginnings of intimate performance venues through the years of obscure and fascinating functions, to the high-end performances on theatre stages and for large-scale fundraisers, Plumsong has performed with the same vigour and discipline. No event is too small or too big for the love that Plumsong brings to the stage.
In 2017, Plumsong took that love and passion and turned it into a full-scale theatre production. “Just a Song and a Dance” took the average Plumsong experience of a background gig and opened the secret behind-the-scene life of performing to the audience through song, dance, banter and a little bit of arguing. Staged at the Alexander Bar in Cape Town and the National Arts Festival in Makhanda, “Just a Song and a Dance” received standing ovations from sold-out houses and to wrap up the year, the production received a nomination for “Best New Production” from Broadway World South Africa.
In the time since their inception, Plumsong has performed at restaurant venues such as Diva’s Caffe, the Royal Cape Yacht Club, the Rockwell Hotel, Pastis Brasserie and many other intimate restaurant environments. Beyond the restaurant environment, Plumsong has performed in magical, sweeping settings from Calvin Grove and de Morgenzon Estate to Nooitgedacht Wine Estate, as well as intimate home settings for functions ranging from Christmas parties to weddings, anniversaries to birthdays. Since 2017, Plumsong has performed at multiple charity events, such as the Cape Town Society for the Blind’s annual fundraisers, as well as functions at Highlands House and Temple Israel. Plumsong has also become a staple performance at the Galileo Open Air Cinema’s Royale events since 2019. Throughout the pandemic, while everyone was stuck at home, Plumsong hosted multiple “Open Air Concerts” from their home, several performances of which can be captured on their facebook page.
